Garcinia forbesii (Mundar) is a type of mangosteen that occurs in natural forests and is also being cultivated in gardens. Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) itself has the nickname “Queen of fruits” because it is one of the best and most popular tropical fruits in the world, and has a delicious taste.

One species of the genus Garcinia is Garcinia forbesii. Garcinia forbesii is a mangosteen with red skin, the Banjar-South Kalimantan people call it Mundar. Mundar is a relative of the mangosteen with fruit that is smaller than the mangosteen, the shape of the fruit is round, the skin is red and thin with white fruit content with a sweet and sour taste. Along the twigs fruit usually appears in clusters of 2 to 7 points. Mundar fruit is a fruit that is rarely found in South Kalimantan.

This plant is a plant belonging to the Clusiaceae tribe found in Sumatra and Kalimantan in a hot, wet and humid climate with an altitude reaching 1700 mpdl.
The plants which belong to perennial/annual plants (paranual), he explained, can still be found in several districts in South Kalimantan.

The name Mundar itself comes from the word round because this fruit is round with a diameter of approximately 3 centimeters. The skin is quite thick and bright red. Mundar’s skin contains a lot of liquid, so the surface of the skin is shiny when exposed to light. The flesh of the fruit can number 5-10 and have a milky white color like the mangosteen fruit. It tastes sweet mixed with sour and contains a lot of water.

The tree stands upright and can reach a height of 10-15 meters. The bark is brown with a smooth and slightly slippery surface. The size of the stem ranges from 30-40 centimeters. The branching form is symmetrical, forming a pyramid-shaped crown.

The shape of the leaf bones is pinnate with flat and tapered edges. Leaf length ranges from 12-22 centimeters with a width of approximately 5 centimeters.

The flesh is white, with a sweet taste, the closer to the seeds the fresh sour taste. Weight / fruit 40-60 grams. The seeds are small, flat and weigh 0.2 grams.

Mundar fruit more productive than mangosteen. Along the twigs fruit appears in clusters of 2 to 7 points.

This plant grows a lot in the interior of the Kalimantan forest with an altitude of up to 700 meters above sea level. Mundar usually grows under shade trees with high humidity.
