Description

Garcinia is the name of a genus of plants from the Clusiaceae family. This genus, consisting of about 200 species, is mostly distributed in the Old World, especially Southeast Asia, and only a small number are found in tropical America. Some types produce hard wood, and quite a lot produce fruit that can be eaten, as fresh fruit or to add a sour taste to dishes. One of the famous ones is mangosteen (G. mangostana).
