Alocasia atropurpurea

Alocasia atropurpurea, is a species of the Araceae family. This plant lives in the tropics of Southeast Asia, found in the Philippines.

Alocasia atropurpurea

This plant lives in open mossy forests along the highway between Ifugao and Bontoc in higher areas such as hills and mountains. It is an endemic plant, confined to one location found only on Mt. Polis between Ifugao and Bontoc, Luzon island. The population of Alocasia atropurpurea is currently decreasing in its habitat. Even though it is a protected area, because it is close to the highway, the disturbance factor from humans who build roads is very influential resulting in habitat loss. This species is often hunted and taken from its habitat to be used as ornamental plants by local residents and for trade, due to the very easy access to this plant habitat.
