Alocasia suhirmaniana, is a species of the genus alocasia in the Araceae family group, which is found in Sulawesi. Species Alocasia suhirmaniana, is endemic to Sulawesi. It has smooth leaves, especially when exposed to the morning sun. The luster of the peltate leaves in turquoise green close to purple exudes a strong mystical impression. The underside of the leaf appears elegantly clad in purplish-red color. The greenish-white leaf bones are firmly attached to look symmetrical and contrasting. In line with whitish green leaf stalks with slightly purple spots and fine hairs. The appearance of a flower figure is no less beautiful, the flower stalks are purple-black and hairy like velvet. The proportional figure of this species (height 50 – 70 cm) is suitable as a potplant on the terrace of the house.
dr. Yuzammi, M.Sc, an Alocasia cultivator from the Bogor Botanical Gardens, claims to be the discoverer of Alocasia suhirmaniana in Sulawesi, which is named “suhirmaniana”, after the name of the former Head of the Indonesian Botanical Gardens, Dr. Ir. Suhirman.
